Love the beach so much that you want a piece of it at your home too? Well, we might just have the solution to that. Recreate the magic of the beach in your bedroom to enjoy the serene calmness of the ocean even when you are lying in bed. The beach bedroom theme has caught on and is really popular among the beach lovers. If you and your partner really love the beach, then create your own piece of the beach in your bedroom. It is a fresh and vibrant theme and one that will garner you a lot of compliments.

The primary step like in the case of any redecoration is painting the room. The obvious choice for the beach look would be blue. However, what exact shade of blue you would want is entirely up to you. Some might prefer the turquoise blue or a shade that looks more like sea-green. Pick a shade that you like best. In essential the color must make you feel like you are out in the open. Such colors generally bring a roomy feeling and the room feels extra airy. The color blue is also soothing to the eye.

While a white bedspread would the most appropriate option, it is often said that it very hard to maintain white bedspreads. Hence opt for something in khaki or in the color of chocolate, something that is reminiscent of the sand. If the walls are in a light color then opt for a darker bedspread and vice-versa. We would like to add that beach themed bedspreads are just too tacky really and do not create the beach ambience in your bedroom. You could also match your down comforter to the color of the walls to get a comfy look. Any charms that you have collected yourself in the beach can also be carefully positioned to create an ambience of romance.

For that beachy feeling, window coverings are really important. Sheer drapes are the best option for the beach bedroom themes. Having lots of pillows on the bed some in solid colors and some with a few shells sewn into the fabric would be a very nice touch too. Adding a touch like replacing the ceiling fan in the room with a leaf fan would also be a great observation. You could also add black and white photos of the beach and related photos to your wall in strategic positions. Remember not to overcrowd, as in the case of decorating less is definitely more.

Butterfly Garden Theme Bedrooms - Girl's Room Design Tips

By Tracy Svendsen

What little girl wouldn't adore a pretty room filled with magical butterflies? A butterfly bedroom theme is simple to create and the possibilities are endless. It's a perfect theme for a room to dream, play and grow in, inspiring little imaginations through the use of color, shape and form. This design of room very much appeals to me, as I believe that it is a soothing and relaxing environment, filled with meadows, soft colors, grass, butterflies, flowers, and whimsical objects. Although this is how I envision a butterfly room to be, there are many variations that can be created.

Before beginning a butterfly theme bedroom, it is a good idea to choose the bedding prior to the color of paint and accessories that will be incorporated. There are many butterfly quilts, comforters and bedding sets available in a wide variety of patterns. Most butterfly bedding is generally in soft pastels such as pale pink, yellow, purple or meadow green. Another option is to purchase a solid comforter or quilt set and add giant butterfly pillows, sheets and shams in butterfly print. Butterfly bedding is also available in brighter red, orange and yellow tones.

Once the bedding has been chosen, it's time to select a wall paint color. I suggest bringing a pillow sham into the paint store with you when viewing samples. This ensures that the right shade of color will be used. Once the walls are painted, a butterfly theme wallpaper border can be added. Other options include butterfly wall stencils, murals, or hand-painted garden scenes with butterflies, bees, flowers, and a picket fence. For those not wanting to paint, you can also purchase stick on wall decals or wallpaper murals. A creative idea is to paint or apply a purchased mural of a beautiful garden scene and add a wood frame with shutters around it to depict a window.

Creative Design Ideas:

A picket fence really compliments the butterfly theme and helps to create a garden inspired feel to the room. There are several options available in creating a picket fence. You can use real fence posts painted white, hand paint a picket fence onto the wall, or apply a pasted vinyl cut-out of a fence. Silk vines and flowers can be incorporated. A trellis with soft arches can be used to run the length of a wall. One of the most compelling butterfly theme bedrooms that I have viewed had walls that were painted a sunny yellow color, where the yellow graduated in shade. A darker yellow paint was applied at the base of the wall, and became lighter in shade as it reached the ceiling. Real fence posts were painted white and attached section by section to the wall. A soft rose color wall paint was then applied behind the fence section only. Large paper flowers were wound around the posts. Faux-painted grass, butterflies and ladybugs were painted randomly throughout the scene. It created a very whimsical and soft look to the room.

There is a wide range of butterfly and garden theme art work and prints available. It is also very simple to create your own. You can cut out images from magazines or books, place them in frames and hang them on the wall or arrange in small groups on dressers and bookcases. There are many photo stock images that can be purchased for a minimal price online. Artists create vector images of all kinds of butterflies. They can be printed and framed. If you are familiar with Adobe Photoshop or a similar program, you can add your child's name to the image, adjust colors, or simply combine several images. Dragonflies, butterflies, flowers, bumblebees and ladybugs are a great addition.

Nylon hanging butterflies can be attached to the ceiling or wall. You can purchase butterfly switch plates, lamps and stools. Little butterflies can be glued to an existing lampshade. Hang a clothesline and use clothespins to secure tiny doll dresses in pretty fabrics against a wall.

Classic white furniture looks wonderful with this theme. Be sure to choose dainty pieces that don't compete with the delicate butterflies. Canopy beds or white metal beds are a wonderful feature. A sheer canopy can have butterflies randomly glued in place. Replace handles and knobs of furniture with butterfly theme hardware such as dainty porcelain with hand painted butterflies. You can decoupage butterflies onto a dresser or border around a mirror. Try hand painting a dresser, with the first drawer having a soft yellow background with roses applied, the second drawer background painted a soft pink with purple polka dots, and the third bottom drawer having a purple background with yellow butterflies painted on. Let fabrics, artwork and bedding inspire you.

A carpet in a soft grass green color or rosy pink that compliments the walls and bedding is a nice touch. A neutral color also blends in well and won't detract from wall art and other decor.

You can purchase butterfly curtains, and butterfly tie-backs. I think that sheer white curtains fluttering in the breeze teamed with a gingham valence provides a stunning effect. You can purchase organza ribbon and glue small nylon butterflies where it ties, or randomly glue butterflies throughout the curtain. Floral patterns can also be incorporated.

I hope you have found these tips inspiring. Good luck creating your butterfly theme room!

Rustic Log Cabin Theme Bedrooms for Kids

By Tracy Svendsen

One of my favorite themes for a little boy's room is the log cabin kids rustic bedroom theme. This was the choice of my son, Dakota, and we had a lot of fun achieving the "lodge" look for his room. What I liked best about it, was that it was suitable for a young boy, but works just as well for an older boy. There is a lot of room for creativity with a rustic style theme room. Lots of boys like to camp out, go hiking, fish and explore the outdoors. The room can be created to feel like your child is experiencing a wilderness adventure every night! Some design tips and suggestions are as follows:

1. There are so many options for bedding that are suitable with a rustic look, such as comforter sets that feature bear, moose, elk, deer and camping scenery. Log cabin quilts are another option, and there are numerous log cabin and rustic theme quilts available. Denim bedding or plaid flannel patterns for bedding and linens can also be used. Homespun fabrics in ticking stripes also works. For my son's room, we used a solid print earth tone comforter, a beautiful rustic coverlet with moose in a fall scene, and an assortment of throw cushions with wildlife and navaho prints.

2. Rustic wood beds, heavy timber-look bed frames or handcrafted log beds work the best for the rustic bedroom theme.

3. Walls can be painted in earth tone colors, such as tan, rust, copper, or warm shades of brown. A color scheme of red and hunter green contrasts well with wood tones. Choose a color from the bedding if possible, or a complimentary contrasting color. Wall paper borders are available with everything from bear, moose, elk, camping scenes, snowshoes, forests and trees, and trout. Another fun option is to use log wallpaper. This works best if it is run partially up the wall. The paint above can be a neutral creme or tan color, to prevent the room from looking to dark. Wood paneling or rough-sawn plywood panels can also be used. Try painting log 'beams' on the ceiling.

4. A stone fireplace running up the length of one wall, creates a cozy feel. Fake stone can also be purchased. Wall art can be purchased with wilderness scenes, animals, the woods etc. Photos can be cut out from books or magazines, framed, and hung on the walls, or clustered together in groups on dressers and bookshelves. We used prints by Bev Doolittle for my son's room, as we both loved the color and scenery. Stock photos can be purchased online of bear, moose and deer, for a minimal price. They can be printed and framed. Rough frames can be made by hand. Small tree branches can be used as curtain rods.

5. Use stuffed animals, such as beaver, bear, moose, elk, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and owls. Throw pillows with the same animals can be used on the bed or grouped together on the floor. Hang fake geese in mid-flight from the ceilings. Use old trunks to store toys.

6. Try painting an outdoor scene on the wall, or purchase a wall mural of the forest. This can then have a 'window frame' applied to the surrounding edges. Accessories can include: vintage signs, country cabin or wildlife area rugs, rustic lighting and decorative lanterns.

7. Wooden furniture works the best in the log cabin theme room. Simple squared-off furniture in oak, pine, or rustic furniture. Vintage household items, fishing lures, canoe paddles, or a set of weathered snowshoes can be hung on the wall. Canoe bookshelves work well in this space.

I hope you find these tips helpful. Have fun!

Bedroom Theme Ideas - For Some Rest and Relaxation!

By Violin Nikolov

Your bedroom is your sanctuary. A place to get away from the humdrum of the world. Even when you are out, sometimes you can't wait to get back home. It is so because your home is your comfort zone. To give your mood and your life a little lift, you can redecorate your bedroom and give it a little twist. There are many bedroom theme ideas for you to choose from, or you could give your imagination a free rein and let your own ideas run wild. Either way you create for yourself a perfect place for your private R&R.

Do you have the classic white colored walls in your bedroom? If yes, then maybe it is high time that you spice it up a bit. Painting the room is one of the basic and most important part of redecorating. A fresh coat of paint can transform any room and give you that much needed change. You opt for a funky design or embellishment on your walls or could just paint all the walls in a nice, funky color. Light and bright colors tend to make your rooms look more spacious than they actually are.

While you may have many bedroom theme ideas, remember you budget and make plans accordingly. There are many things that you can do and they would not empty your bank account either. For example you could upholster a headboard in a dreamy fabric and it would make an amazing statement. If you have a chair in the room, even the chair can be upholstered in the same fabric to retain continuity. Adding night tables and other such decorative items in different shades of the color you have painted your room in, will make it look elegant without making it seem overwhelming.

If everything matches or is in the same color, the space seems far from relaxing. Make sure you do not over decorate the room and end up with a monstrosity. Stick to simplicity and you cannot really go wrong. Just don't pick everything in the same color and same shade, trust us; it is going to hurt your eye to even look at it later. Experiment with small treats that in other colors to make your bedroom look vibrant and alive. Bedroom theme ideas should be nurturing to the eye and remember that this is place where you spend a lot of time, so it should e comfortable as well.
