Many kids love the thrill of surfing and riding out the big wave. This has become a very popular room decorating theme and can be easily achieved with color and surf collectibles. Your child or teen will love a room with a beach surfing design. You can use the ideas provided in this article to get started!

1. Find a surf theme wallpaper border.

Once you have selected the wallpaper border, install it at the chair rail height to act as a room separator. You will want to place the wallpaper border a bit above center so that it is not hidden by your headboard. For this example, we will be outlining a surfing room done in the colors of red, yellow and blue.

2. Select two companion wallpapers.

Select two companion wallpapers that complement the wallpaper border that was chosen in step 1. Place one of the wallpapers above the chair rail and the second one below the chair rail. Try to use two of the colors that are dominant in your wallpaper border selection.

3. Purchase an inexpensive comforter.

You can find inexpensive bedding at your local discount or box stores. Try a denim blue comforter and pillow shams for a laid back look. Find some floral fabric at your craft store and create simple accent throw pillows in a coordinating color. Fabrics with bold floral prints work quite well for this project.

4. Give your furniture a makeover.

Purchase a simple white bedframe with a shaker style wooden headboard or watch for them at garage sales and give them a quick makeover with a fresh coat of white paint to save cost.

5. Purchase a real surfboard.

To create a real wow factor, try installing a real surfboard onto one of the walls to use it as a focal point. If possible, find one that has a design or color that matches the room decor that you are working with.

6. Let internet help you.

Search the internet or garage sales for old tin signs that refer to surfing, the beach or palm trees. Hang these signs in a collage on an accent wall.

7. Add texture with bamboo or grasscloth.

Try hanging a bamboo or grasscloth type roll up shade on the window of your room to carry out the theme of a grass hut or surfing climate. These can be purchased at your local home improvement stores.

8. Use a wall mural as a stunning accent.

For an added twist, and to really ramp up your bedroom theme, try hanging a large surfing mural on an accent wall. If you choose to do this, you would only put your wallpaper and border on three walls. Wall murals are available in a scenic nature, showing the water, waves and surfer, or you can purchase a giant surf board cut out mural.

Any of these eight ideas, or all of them, make creating a laid back surfing bedroom theme a breeze!
