The idea of having a theme based decorating idea for their home interiors confuses many people. To make it simple a "decorating theme" is nothing but a set of parameters that share common properties.
What does this mean?
To understand this properly, let's do a simple exercise. Take a piece of paper and write down the common bedroom accessories you will be using while decorating. These can be curtains, wallpapers, lighting fixtures, furniture (existing or new), picture frames, etc.
Each one of these accessories has it's own design style in itself. This can be modern/contemporary/oriental/country, etc.
Now if you combine all accessories into one place, that have a contemporary look and use them in bedroom decorating, you have a "contemporary bedroom-decorating theme". A theme is nothing but a collection of decorating accessories that share a common design style.
You can easily reverse the theme into an "oriental" one by choosing specific accessories that will reflect more intricate detailing work. For example in the oriental style decorating theme more attention is given to curved surfaces as against straight line and simple forms in the modern/contemporary decorating theme.
Since a bedroom is never an independent housing unit. It is always attached and is a part of the entire home plan. The decorating theme of the bedroom must also reflect the theme of the entire home interior design as well. Depending upon the type of bedroom there will be minor changes in the final executed design.
The types of bedrooms will be master bedroom, teenager bedroom, kids bedroom, guest bedroom, etc. All these will have their own specific functions and requirements. But the overall decorating theme can still be maintained that will easily create a visual flow i accordance with the entire home decorating theme.
